Magazine Front Cover Analysis

Here is an issue of ‘Surrey Life’. This is a style of magazine which I plan to base my regional magazine on. There is a lot of detail, thought and imagination put into the magazine as a whole.

This magazine is an excellent example of a typical regional style magazine and all the elements follow the codes and conventions. This particular magazine is suitable for the purpose, of which it has been designed.

On this front cover there is lots to look at, the picture has been taken on a snowy winters day when the sun is setting which has created a range of colours in the scene. The writing has been written in white to keep to the theme but also so that it still stands out against the background. When there is a lot to look at; it is normally seen as a disadvantage for the magazine company as people don’t know what to look at and people like to look at something that is simple and easy to understand.

The editor has created a magazine that features soft pastel colours which makes it neutral and appealing to both males and females. This is a very clever option by the editor as it allows their magazine to target all audience members.

The magazine also includes a barcode; alongside this is the price that all magazines must include if their product is to be sold in a shop.

This is another issue of ‘Surrey Life’, the style has been based around a regional magazine. There is a lot of detail on the cover and the layout has been carefuly considered.

This issue of Surrey Life magazine is an excellent example of a typical regional style magazine and all the elements follow the codes and conventions. This particular magazine is suitable for the purpose, of which it has been designed.

The main element to the front cover is the manor house, which is featured through the central part. From the date on the front cover and in the picture ourselves we can straight away tell that the picture has been take on a bright and sunny summers day.

The writing has been written in white and pink which makes it stands out against the background.

The editor has created a magazine that features soft colours with a touch of the vibrant pink to add colour, I believe that this magazine would be appealing to both males and females.

The magazine also includes a barcode on the bottom right hand corner; as well as the price that all magazines must include to allow their product is to be sold in a shop.

Here we can see another issue of ‘Surrey Life’. Once again from the cover we can tell a lot of detail, thought and imagination put into it.

This regional style front cover has followed the codes and conventions of a typical regional style magazine. This particular issue of the magazine is suitable for the purpose, of which it has been designed.

Very similar to the first issue of ‘Surrey Life’ that I looked at, this front cover also has lots to look at. The picture has been taken on a summer’s day when the sky is clear of clouds. Also similar to the second magazine front cover that I looked at this one also contains a manor house and shows the surrounding gardens from a front on view with the main feature in the photograph central.

The writing has been written in white which so far follows a trend and could be a colour theme that the producers of ‘Surrey Life’ use in all their front covers; which keeps to a theme but also in all issues of the magazines; stands out against the background.

The editor has created a magazine that includes a wide range of different colours in this issue; which makes it appealing, catching the eye of potential customers; the use of colours is also an excellent choice for attracting both males and females. This is a very clever option by the editor as it allows their magazine to target all audience members.

Like all other magazines; this magazine includes a barcode; alongside this is the price that all magazines must include if their product is to be sold in a shop.

Another issue of ‘Surrey Life’. Once again this style of magazine follows the codes and conventions of a typical regional magazine. There is a lot of fine detail within this cover, the picture has been carefully shot in the correct light and position. This particular magazine is suitable for the purpose, of which it has been designed.

On this front cover there is lots of detail in the picture to look at, the picture has been taken on an autumns day. The writing has been written in white to keep to the theme but also so that it still stands out against the background.

The background is made up of dark colours that make the orange squirrel stand out as the main focus of the front cover. Again the writing has been written in yellow and white, which stands out. Neutral colours have been used which makes the magazine appealing to both males and females; a very clever option by the editor as it allows their magazine to target all audience.

Once again the magazine has included a barcode; alongside this is the price that all magazines must include if their product is to be sold in a shop.

A fifth issue of ‘Surrey Life’. This issue of the magazine follows the codes and conventions of a typical regional magazine. This cover picture has been taken on a clear blue sky day after a heavy period of snow, the picture location has been carefully considered taking advantage of the correct light and position. Once again this issue of the Surrey Life magazine is suitable for the purpose of which it has been designed.

This issue is a Christmas one; the front cover has been adapted to this time period. The picture is simple but when looking at it closely you can see lots of detail in the picture. The writing has been written in white to keep to the theme of snow and Christmas and snow however; in some areas I feel the writing blends with the snow background.

Neutral colours have been used which makes the magazine appealing to both males and females; a very clever option by the editor as it allows their magazine to target all audience.

Finally; once again the magazine has included a barcode, alongside this is the price that all magazines must include if their product is to be sold in a shop.
